Updated on August 12, 2026

Series B funding led by Peak XV Partners has rocketed Blacksmith’s valuation to $550 million, a near tenfold jump from the $60 million it was assigned less than a year ago, according to TechCrunch. The AI code-testing startup’s customer base has exploded from over 700 to more than 5,000 in the same period, fueling investor confidence.

The new $45 million round, which included existing backers GV and Y Combinator, values the company’s rapid execution on a swelling market problem. As AI coding agents like Cursor and Claude proliferate, they generate code at unprecedented speed, but validating that code remains a stubborn bottleneck. Blacksmith’s growth indicates that the next critical layer of the modern software stack isn't for writing code, it’s for verifying it.

From $60 Million to $550 Million in Ten Months

The numbers tell the story of a company catching a powerful wave. Blacksmith raised a $10 million Series A at a $60 million valuation less than a year ago. The latest $45 million Series B now values the company at $550 million.

CEO Aditya Jayaprakash says revenue has grown more than tenfold over the past year. The company reached a $10 million annualized revenue run rate with just 10 employees. While he declined to provide a specific updated ARR, he noted that some of Blacksmith’s largest customers, which include Mercury, Supabase, and Expensify, now spend over $1 million a year on the platform.

“Validating code is still a bottleneck, and it’s an even bigger bottleneck because people are writing even more,” Jayaprakash said.

This trajectory mirrors other infrastructure plays that have scaled rapidly by solving a core efficiency problem, as seen when HappyRobot's Valuation Doubles to $1.2 Billion in Under a Year. Investors are betting that Blacksmith’s focus on testing automation is a foundational need, not a feature.

Betting on Bare Metal and AI Agents

Blacksmith didn't just wait for demand to find it. The company’s technical strategy is a key part of its valuation story. It operates on high-performance, gaming-grade CPUs in its own facilities, a "bare-metal" approach it claims provides better economics and control than renting generic cloud servers from hyperscalers.

This architecture powers its core continuous integration (CI) service, but its more intriguing expansion is Codesmith, an AI coding agent that can automatically fix failed code checks. This moves Blacksmith from being a faster testing pipeline to an active participant in the debugging process itself.

The company has grown its workforce to about 30 employees, a lean team managing significant scale. This operational efficiency, combined with explosive top-line growth, is the classic combination that attracts premium valuations in a tight funding market.

Blacksmith’s success has not gone unnoticed. Its market is densely populated with giants and newcomers alike.

Key competitors identified in the report include GitHub Actions, Cursor Automations, the validation capabilities baked into AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic, and the AI code-testing services offered by Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.

Jayaprakash argues his startup competes on the speed of testing and affordability. Competing on price and performance against cloud hyperscalers is a formidable challenge, one that has tripped up many startups. However, Blacksmith's singular focus on developer efficiency, rather than offering a broad cloud portfolio, could be its differentiator. These competitive dynamics often spark intense legal and strategic battles, as seen when Rippling Sued for Cloning Startup Tech After Year Trial.

XOOMAR Analysis: The core risk isn't just competition, it's integration. If GitHub or a cloud provider significantly improves and simplifies their native AI testing, it could diminish the need for a separate, best-of-breed tool. Blacksmith's growth suggests its current product is superior, but that lead must be maintained.

The Path From Testing to a Full AI Development Suite

Looking ahead, Jayaprakash said Blacksmith plans to expand into a broader suite of coding tools, aiming to help developers write, validate, and merge software faster. This suggests an ambition to become more than a testing platform, perhaps evolving into a central command center for the AI-augmented development lifecycle.

What to watch for next:

  • Market Penetration: Can Blacksmith convert its thousands of customers into even larger contracts, or does it need to vastly expand its customer base to justify its new valuation?
  • Product Expansion: How quickly and effectively can it move "upstream" into the code writing or "downstream" into deployment, without diluting its core testing advantage?
  • Competitive Moves: The most immediate signal will be if any major cloud provider or platform announces a dedicated, aggressive price cut or feature push in the AI code-testing space.

The funding gives Blacksmith capital to execute, but the market is moving just as fast. Its valuation is a bet that the bottleneck in software's future is validation, and that the company that solves it best will own a critical piece of the next development stack.

Why This Changes Everything

  • The tenfold valuation jump signals investor confidence that AI code verification, not just generation, is becoming a critical layer in the modern software stack.
  • With revenue growing tenfold and customers expanding from 700 to 5,000, Blacksmith demonstrates massive market demand for solving the AI coding bottleneck.
  • The success validates the broader industry shift where infrastructure plays solving core efficiency problems can achieve hypergrowth valuations in under a year.
