What the jobs report is

The Employment Situation report, better known as the jobs report, gives the month's change in nonfarm payrolls from the survey of employers and the unemployment rate from the survey of households. The Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes it at 8:30 a.m. Eastern, usually on the first Friday of the month.
