What this data is
Economic calendar
The schedule comes straight from the agencies that publish the numbers: the BLS release calendars (CPI, PPI, the employment report, JOLTS, import prices, productivity, the employment cost index), BEA's schedule (GDP, personal income and outlays, trade), the Census Bureau's indicator calendar (retail sales, housing starts and permits, new home sales, durable goods, construction spending, inventories, factory orders), the Fed's FOMC, G.17 and Beige Book pages, and the Thursday cadence of weekly jobless claims. Nothing is transcribed from a third-party calendar, so the dates and times are the ones that will actually print.
When a release lands, the actual is pulled from the source series: CPI year-over-year from the BLS index, the payroll change from the establishment survey, the FOMC decision from the statement with the daily policy-rate series as the check, GDP from the BEA release, and the rest from the agency series on FRED with the unit stated (percent change or level). The previous value is the prior period on the same basis.

How to read it
- The surprise is the number: actual minus what was expected. There is no consensus column here, so compare the actual with the previous print and, for the Fed, with the policy-rate series.
- FOMC decisions are shown as the midpoint of the target range. A move of 0.25 is one step.
- The release time is the agency's own; an actual that is still empty an hour after it means the source series has not posted yet, not that the number was missed.
