What retail sales cover
The advance monthly retail sales report estimates the sales of US retailers and restaurants, the first official read on consumer spending each month. The Census Bureau publishes it about two weeks after the month ends, at 8:30 a.m. ET. The headline is total retail and food services sales, seasonally adjusted and not adjusted for price changes, as a change on the month before.
