Understanding
What VET funding tells you
Funding is the fee longs and shorts pay each other to keep the perpetual price pinned to spot. When VET funding is positive, longs pay shorts: the crowd is leaning long. Deeply negative funding means shorts are paying to stay short, which is rarer and often more interesting.
The number itself matters less than its percentile. A rate that looks tiny per 8 hours annualizes to double digits, and a rate at its 30-day extreme means positioning is stretched regardless of the absolute value. Our Signals API computes exactly that percentile from this page's history.
Cross-exchange divergence is the second read: when one venue's funding runs hot against the others, leverage is concentrated there, and that is where forced unwinds start.
Common Questions
How often does funding settle?
Every 8 hours on Binance and Bybit; OKX uses the same convention for VET. The countdown above shows the next settlement.
Is positive funding bullish or bearish?
It reports crowding, not direction. Persistent extreme positive funding has historically preceded long squeezes more often than further upside.
How far back does this history go?
Back to 2019 for the majors. Use ?history=all on the API endpoint to pull everything.
