Understanding

What Are Liquidations?

When a leveraged futures position loses enough that the margin cannot cover the loss, the exchange force-closes it. A cascade happens when forced closures at one price level trigger more liquidations at adjacent levels. Watching liquidation volume helps gauge leverage buildup and potential cascade risk. High liquidation bursts often coincide with local price extremes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a liquidation cascade?
When forced closures at one price level push the market further, triggering more liquidations in sequence. This amplifies short-term price moves.
Is this data real-time?
Yes. We aggregate liquidations from Binance (WebSocket), OKX (WebSocket), Gate.io (REST every 30s), and HTX (REST every 60s). Page updates every 60 seconds.
Which exchanges are covered?
Binance, OKX, Gate.io, and HTX — the four largest crypto futures exchanges by open interest.
Can high liquidations predict price direction?
Not directly. But extreme long liquidation spikes often mark local bottoms, and extreme short liquidations mark local tops. Use as context, not a signal.
How far back does history go?
Individual liquidation events are kept for 90 days; hourly aggregates are kept permanently. Coverage starts June 2026.
